Adaptive Reuse

The community in the Wychwood area identified the barns as being a problem as they hadnt been used and were starting to become a hazard to the community. The buildings have always been a local historical landmark though and it would have been a shame to have them demolished. The community came up with an adaptive reuse policy which saw the barns converted into a multipurpose space.

The local community identified some of the activities and facilities that the local area was lacking and came up with a program to create these facilities using the old barns, sharing a part of the building with non profit and innovatice future companies.

The barns are a collection of 5 old unused barns which stant in 4.3 acres of land. The first of the barns was built in 1913 and built from brick as a two story steel framed building. Everything was stripped out of the inside of the barns with very little work needing to be done to the building other than replacement windows and a few repairs to the conservatory.
