The historic Wychwood TTC street car barns located in the St Clair and Christie neighbourhood of Toronto were once used for repairing cars. They have since been transformed by Artscape into 60,000 square foot multiuse centre for the community to use. The barns now help to bring culture, history and the future together, along with a strong community bond.
The wychwood barns are surrounded by a huge 127,000 square feet of park which is also owned by the city. The park was officially opened to the public in November 2008.
The Wychwood Barns and attached conservatory are now the new home to a wide range of artists, shops and charities. There have been extensive repairs to the barns, including replacement windows, several walls being repaired, doors being replaced, the roof being replaced in places and repaired in others while the whole building had had a general make over from top to bottom.
